여러분은 얼마나 큰 수까지 갈 수 있는지 알아보기 위해 수를 세어본 적이 있나요?
백만까지 가는 것이 쉽지는 않을 거에요.
백만은 큰 숫자죠.
그것은 이런 모양이에요 – 1,000,000.
그것은 큰 수이지만 이해하기에 너무 큰 수는 아니죠.
여기 백만에 빨리 이르는 몇 가지 방법이 있습니다.
부엌에서 소금 병을 찾아보세요.
약간의 소금을 손안에 놓아보세요.
소금을 자세히 쳐다보세요. 여러분은 작은 알갱이들을 보게 될 거에요.
이것들은 소금 알갱이들이죠.
그것들은 너무 작아서 잘 볼 수가 없어요.
테이블 스푼 하나에 소금을 가득 채워 보세요.
여러분은 숟가락 하나에 약 백만 개의 알갱이가 있음을 추측할 수 있어요.

그렇다면 백만까지 세려면 시간이 얼마나 걸릴 거로 생각하나요?
초침이 있는 시계를 찾아보세요.
가장 좋은 것은 째깍 소리가 나는 것입니다.
째깍거리는 초침 소리를 들어보세요.
백만 초가 지나기까지 시간이 얼마나 거릴까요?
만약 멈추지 않고 모든 초를 센다면 거의 2주가 거릴 거에요. 만약 먹고, 놀고, 잠자거나 심지어 목욕하려고 멈추지 않는다면 말이죠.
욕조에 대해 말해보자면, 보통 욕조는 약 200리터의 물을 담을 수 있어요.
만약 백만 리터의 물을 사용하기 위해 충분히 목욕한다면 매우 깨끗해질 수는 있어도 목욕에 매우 싫증이 날 거에요.
백만 리터의 물은 약 5천 번의 목욕에 해당하는 양이거든요!
백만은 매우 큰 숫자이지만, 훨씬 더 큰 숫자도 있어요.
10억은 백만이 1,000개인 수이죠.

하지만 이것보다 훨씬 더 큰 숫자도 있어요.
숫자는 영원히 계속될 것이며, 그래서 다음에 알게 될 더 큰 숫자는 항상 존재할 거에요.

Have you ever started counting to see how high you could go?
It won't be easy for you to reach a million.
One million is a big number.
It looks like this - 1,000,000. That's big, but not too big to understand.
Here are some ways to get to one million quickly.
A Million Grains of Salt
Find a salt bottle in your kitchen.
Put some salt on your hand.
Look carefully at the salt; you'll see lots of small pieces.
These are called salt grains.
They are so small that you cannot see them very well.
Fill a tablespoon with salt.
You can guess that there are about one million grains in a spoon.
So, there's your first million!
Tick, Tick, Tick. Don't Stop!
Did you notice that we didn't count the salt grains?
That will take a very long time.
Then, how long do you think it would take to count to one million?
Find a clock with a second hand.
The best clock is the one that ticks.
Listen to the seconds ticking away.
How long will it be before one million seconds have passed?
If you count every second without stopping, you'll count for almost two weeks
- if you don't stop to eat, play, sleep, or even take a bath.
Water by the Bathtub
As for baths, a normal bathtub holds about two hundred liters of water.
If you take enough baths to use a million liters, you will be very clean,
but you may be sick of baths.
A million liters of water is for about five thousand baths!
Bigger than a Million?
One million is a big number, but there are much bigger numbers.
One billion is one thousand million.
Think of one thousand spoons of salt.
How about one thousand billion?
Think of one thousand houses, all with a thousand spoons of salt inside.
Yet, there are numbers even bigger than these.
Numbers go on forever, so there will always be a bigger number to get to know next.
