최초의 자메이카 봅슬레이 팀이 캐나다 캘거리에서 열린 1988년 동계 올림픽에

서 세계를 놀라게 했다. 사람들은 그 팀의 동계 스포츠에 대한 사랑을 여전히 기억

한다.

그 팀은 올림픽을 단 5개월 앞둔 1987년 9월에 자메이카에서 조직되었다. 그때

많은 사람들은 이 사실을 믿지 않았다. 자메이카에는 눈이 없고 대부분의 자메이카

사람들은 동계 스포츠에 대해 많이 알지 못했다. 처음에 그들은 평평한 땅에서 수

레를 가지고 연습을 했다. 자메이카에는 봅슬레이 트랙이 없었기 때문이다. 나중에

실제 봅슬레이 트랙에서 언덕을 내려오는 연습을 하기 위해 그들은 캘거리로 갔다.

거기에서 그들이 경기 전까지 연습할 수 있는 시간은 3주뿐이었다.

마침내 자메이카 봅슬레이 팀이 1988년 캘거리 동계올림픽에 등장했다. 그들은

놀라운 이야기들을 아주 많이 가지고 있어서 곧 전 세계적으로 유명해졌다. 무엇보

 The first Jamaican bobsleigh team surprised the world at the 1988 Winger Olympic Games in Calgary, Canada. The team is still remembered for its love for the winter sport.

 The team was organized in Jamaica in September 1987, just five months before the Olympics. At that time, many people didn't believe it. There is no snow in Jamaica and most Jamaicans did not know much about winter sports. At first, they practiced with a cart on flat ground.

That was because in Jamaica there were no bobsleigh tracks. Later, to practice going down the hill on a real track, they went to Calgary. There they had only three weeks to practice before the race.

 The Jamaican bobsleigh team finally showed up in Calgary for the 1988 Winter Olympics. They had so many surprising stories that they soon  became famous around the world.

 Above all, they came from Jamaica, a tropical country in the Caribbean. They had only a few chances to practice on a bobsleigh track. They even had to borrow a spare sled from another team to compete.

 Though the Jamaican team tried their best at the Olympic Games, they did not do well. They lost control of their sled and crashed. After the crash, they got out of their sled and walked to the finish line. The crowds were impressed. They cheered for the team. Though they could not finish the course, the team won the hearts of people from around the world.

 After the Calgary Olympics, the Jamaican team practiced and got much better. In Lillehammer, Norway in 1994, they came in 14th and once again surprised the world. With that performance, they beat the American, Russian, French teams.

 Thanks to the first Jamaican bobsleigh team, many people have become interested in the sport. More importantly, the team inspired people from around the world "to Aim Higher."
