1. 그릇에 얼음 세 컵을 넣어라.

2. 얼음 위에 소금 한 컵을 뿌려라.

5. 젓가락으로 우유를 휘저어라.

우유를 휘젓는 시간은 우유의 양에 따라 다르다.

Nancy's Dad: 그것은 얼음이 주변 물체로부터 열기를 빼앗기 때문이란다.

               그래서 온도가 낮아지고 우유가 마침내 아이스크림으로 변하지.

Nancy: 왜 소금이 필요하죠?

Nancy's Dad: 얼음에 소금을 넣으면 얼음이 더 많은 열을 가져간단다.

              소금은 얼음 주변의 온도를 영하 20도까지 낮추어 줄 수 있어.

              그것이 아이스크림을 만들기 위한 냉동고의 온도야. 이제 이해할 수 있겠니?

Nancy: 네. 초콜릿 아이스크림이나 멜론 아이스크림도 만들 수 있을까요?

Nancy's Dad: 물론이지. 초콜릿 시럽이나 멜론 시럽을 우유에 넣기만 하면 된단다.

              그러면 다양한 맛의 아이스크림을 얻을 수 있지.

Nancy: 흥미로운데요! 지금 바로 해 봐요.

Dad: Hi, Nancy. I read a newspaper article about how to make ice cream and thought of you, Miss Curious.

Nancy: Why? I don't see anything to be curious about.

Dad: It's because we don't need a freezer with the recipe.

Nancy: Without a freezer? Is that possible?

Dad: Yes. I brought the recipe. Here it is.

Things to Prepare

milk, ice, salt, a big bowl, a metal cup, chopsticks

Steps to Follow

1. Put three cups of ice in the bowl.

2. Sprinkle one cup of salt over the ice.

3. Pour half a cup of milk into the metal cup.

4. Place the metal cup inside the bowl.

5. Stir the milk with chopsticks. The amount of time to stir the milk depends on the amount of milk.

Nancy: Wow! How can milk turn into ice cream without a freezer?

Dad: It's because ice takes heat from the things around it. So the temperature goes down and the milk turns into ice cream.

Nancy: Why do we need the salt?

Dad: When you add salt to ice, the ice take more heat. It can lower the temperature around the ice to -20℃. That's the temperature of a freezer for ice cream. Now do you understand?

Nancy: Yes, Can we make chocolate or melon ice cream, too?

Dad: Sure. Just add chocolate or melon syrup to the milk. You will get different flavors of ice cream.
